NSDR (None sleep deep rest): What is it and how can we implement it?
"None sleep deep rest" is a term coined by Dr. Rubin Naiman, a sleep and dream specialist, to describe a state of restful awareness that can be achieved without actually sleeping. It is a state of relaxation and restoration that allows the mind and body to heal and rejuvenate.
To implement "none sleep deep rest" into our daily lives, we can follow these steps:
Set aside time for relaxation and rest. This can be as little as 10-15 minutes or as long as an hour.
Find a comfortable and quiet place where you won't be disturbed. You can lie down or sit in a comfortable chair.
Turn off your phone and other electronic devices, or put them in another room.
Close your eyes and focus on your breathing. Take slow, deep breaths and exhale slowly.
As you breathe, allow your mind to relax and let go of any thoughts or worries.
Focus on the physical sensations in your body, such as the feeling of your breath moving in and out of your body, the sensation of your body sinking into the chair or bed, and the feeling of warmth or coolness in your body.
If your mind starts to wander, gently bring your attention back to your breath and the physical sensations in your body.
Stay in this state of restful awareness for the duration of your allotted time.
By regularly practicing "none sleep deep rest," you can reduce stress and anxiety, improve your mood and cognitive function, and enhance your overall health and well-being. It can be a valuable addition to your daily self-care routine.
